PH Bank Statistics

There are 638 operating banks as of end June 2015 according to BSP.  This is down from 644 for the same period last year.  It reached a peak of 996 back in 1998.

The breakdown is as follows:

  • 36 universal and commercial banks
  • 70 thrift banks
  • 532 rural and cooperative banks
There are 17 private banks, 20 foreign banks, 3 government banks.  The industry has a total of 10,528 branches, offices (local and foreign representative offices) by end June 2015.

Banks are still predominantly in urban areas with National Capital Region (NCR) accounting for 3,318 head office and branch, followed by Cebu and Davao with 480 offices total.  The Calabarzon region has the 2nd largest concentration with 1,581 offices/branches, followed by Central Luzon with 1,060.
